The Challenge
Context: Not every switch needs a screen. The “Extension Switch” was the cost-effective worker bee.
It mimicked the design language of the Director but used a simplified 1-bit mechanical interface (Top/Bottom) for tactical control.
Engineering Approach
- Wireless Mesh: It communicated with the Room Director via Thread (802.15.4), requiring a carefully tuned antenna implementation to blast through metal electrical boxes.
- Universal Load: It had to dim generic LED bulbs without flickering—a notorious challenge in 2-wire setups (no neutral).
