The Challenge

Context: In a studio, if Pro Tools crashes, you reboot. In a live concert, you get fired.

The “Venue” (D-Show / Profile) line was Digidesign’s entry into live sound reinforcement.

  • Redundancy: Everything had to be redundant. Power supplies, computers, snakes.
  • Ergonomics: The console needed to be “walkable”. An engineer stands for 4 hours, reaching across a 5-foot surface.

Engineering Approach

  • Encoder Reliability: We utilized custom optical encoders with a specific rotational torque (1.5 N-mm) to give the engineer precise feedback without fatigue.
  • Structural Integrity: Tour cases are brutal. The chassis was a monocoque steel weldment designed to survive being tipped off a loading dock.
