The Challenge

Context: The machine that made Jurassic Park.

The Indigo was SGI’s first desktop workstation to bring 3D graphics to the masses (relatively speaking).

  • Cooling: Cooling high-performance MIPS processors in a “Pizza Box” form factor required a custom plenum design.
  • Expansion: The “GIO” bus allowed for massive expansion cards (GFX, Video I/O) to slide in without tools.
